About Us
The Origins:
Rainbow Nation Clothing was started in 2005 after I fell in love with the South African brand 'Keedo', and could find nothing on the UK high street to compare to its ethical practices and originality in design. My daughter was 2, and people were asking where I got her clothes. This was a time before the dawn of ethical and organic clothing being desired, and education of customers was tricky, but the idea of Rainbow Nation was born.
Over time there became a greater awareness and demand for ethical and organic clothing. Lots of brands were born in the early 2000's, enabling me to offer a wider choice of stunning items from around the world. Each brand is chosen for their exciting designs, and ethical production methods. I no longer stock Keedo, but its positive shadow can still be seen throughout the business.
Ethos:
I deal with all supplying companies directly, so that I can confidently verify production methods are fair and ethical. All use the highest quality fabrics including organic cotton, recycled plastic fleece and bamboo.
Alongside 'current season' lines, I specialise in end-of-line stock from Kite, Frugi, Little Green Radicals, Hatley and Sterntaler. I specifically buy end-of-lines, relieving brands of some of their surplus stock, and passing on the discounts of up to 50% off rrp, directly to the customer. This practise helps to make quality clothing more accessible for customers on a tighter budget, buying a product that will last 2+ childrens' wear, rather than lasting just a couple of washes or a season. I also love clothing that is unisex, and that is designed to grow with your child; Turning from a dress to a tunic, trousers with turn ups that can roll down with a growth spurt, and clothing that will adapt to fit different builds without needing to down/up-size.
Unique:
I differ from my competitors in that I have always attended a large number of County Shows each year, taking my shop 'on the road' across the South and West of the Country. I am the largest dedicated children's clothing stand at all of the shows I attend. The shows are tough, it is not always good weather, and many a time I can be found wearing my wellies and raincoat!! Perhaps I attend a show near your home? If so I'd love to meet you.
The Future:
In 2020, just before the pandemic I took my first shop in Tavistock, Devon. The huge increase in space has enabled me to offer lots of new products and brands. I now offer ethical toys, kids art and craft supplies, homewares and more. I spend a lot of time sourcing new supplies from near and far, checking brand ethos and products meet my strict quality requirements, and trying to source some unique products to satisfy my growing customer base. I now stock over 1500 different products, helping to meet the needs of children from birth to 13 years. My aim is to become a 'one-stop-shop' for daily needs, birthdays, treats and Christmas gifts.
Be it online, through social media, in my shop, or at a show you are extremely welcome as a customer, and I will do everything possible to ensure your experience is enjoyable and successful.
Best wishes,
Lisa xxx
